Stoned Love

Detective Sergeant Sam Batford has been lying low at a remote safe house in the highlands of Scotland. He's doing his best not to attract the attention of the enemies he made, on both sides of the law, during his last under-cover operation but Batford knows he’s just killing time. Inevitably the sharks begin to circle and as Batford is called back to front-line action in London he’s thrown into a deadly game of cat and mouse where it seems everyone is out to get him. After having to endure a frustrating resolution to their previous undercover operation together DCI Klara Winter from the National Crime Agency is determined to prove that Batford has crossed the line into criminality and finally bring him to face justice. All Sam Batford wants is to outwit his enemies long enough to stay alive and come out ahead of the game. Ian Patrick’s previous Sam Batford novel, RUBICON has been optioned by the BBC. A Word from the Author: Ian Patrick

Before writing crime I spent twenty-seven years investigating it. Serious and Organised Crime was my day-to-day business. As a Detective Sergeant those years were great, the best of my life to date. Not, as you might assume, because of bashing down doors and locking up criminals. That had its moments for sure. It was about the people I met along the way that I look back on with fondness. Not just the decent minded citizens but the rebels and rogues that I engaged with on a daily basis too. London is unique in her inhabitants and that’s what makes her so special. When I first joined up in the late eighties there was a healthy respect on each side of the house from cop and criminal alike. Today, sadly, that’s gone. My writing focuses on how a good man can turn due to injury, trauma and austerity. It’s a dystopian take on the life of an undercover cop operating in the grips of a service on its knees in terms of cash and cops on the street. The BBC has optioned Rubicon for a six part TV series and is currently in development. Fahrenheit press is my publisher. If you like your crime fiction dark, urban and gritty with authentic realism then look no further. This is just the beginning; there will be more. Will you side with DS Sam Batford or DCI Klara Winter in the race for justice? You’ll have to read on to find out.
